The film's story revolves around the life of a 30-year-old unmarried journalist. The title is a play on the terms "Surpass Men" and "Sheng Nu", which are common terms for single women in their late 20s. Teng Congcong is a filmmaker from Beijing, where she graduated with a master's degree in directing. She studied under renowned Chinese director Xie Fei, who taught her to put in writing and direct. Teng Congcong's short films have won a few awards, adding the Grand Prize at the 5th Asian Film Festival. She has written two scripts and is presently in construction on her first characteristic. The movie has obtained negative complaint for vilifying male characters. Male moviegoers complained that it does not feature a single "normal" man.
