Rae Langton's work, based on Austin's 1962 speech act theory, analyzes how pornography is an active element of bigger methods of oppression. While this definition is not as clear as it may be, it's worth thinking about. Among other things, it consists of a list of what is and isn't pornography. It also leaves open the possibility of a pornographic force for good.
