While the focus of the book is on the early years of gay pornography, it displays how this literature has shaped the gay male erotic event in the twenty-first century. During the 1970s, the variety of gay pornography films greater, with a few studios producing films for the growing variety of gay adult movie theaters. Many of those films meditated the sexual liberation of gay men at the time. The films were often shot in public spaces, and featured male actors performing sex. Some films, like Nights in Black Leather, drew mainstream gays into this subculture. There were several stories inspecting the content and approval for gay pornography. These reviews have shown that some regions of the USA usually tend to produce gay porn than others. For example, South Dakota, Idaho, and Montana have probably the most gay pornography page views. However, this doesn't mean that every one of those states are homophobic. Broke Straight Boys are another genre of gay pornography that adds exhilaration from the daily life and draws on the historical past of gay pornography. While these films are in large part aimed at gays, it highlights the instability of gay desire.
