The comfort station that was built among Shanghai and Nanking eventually became the prototype for other stations. Former Japanese consolation women report on the frightening conditions of forced prostitution. In addition to no non-public freedom, they suffered physical and sexual violence. Their sex slavery was often followed by threats of death and bombings. Differences between Eastern and Western beliefsIn the past 120 years, Western fiction has been filled with myths and stereotypes about Japanese women, from the exotic, maidenly innocence of the pre-modern era to the advanced femme fatale of the 1990s. Despite the advertisement achievement of such myths, the Japanese woman is still a fetish symbol in Western fiction.
