Retsuko's regularly occurring strugglesThe plot of Retsuko's everyday struggles is relatable to any woman of the 21st century, no matter if you're running in an office or seeking to generate income. Her strained daylight hours demeanor and angry alter-ego are average of any twenty-first century woman, and this relatability makes the show one of the good in the genre. Despite the dystopia of Japan, the characters are particularly real, which makes the show all the more compelling. Retsuko's struggles begin at work, where she attempts to broaden herself in the place of work. She takes on the responsibility of coaching a junior coworker, Anai, how to reply the phone for the agency. This proves challenging when Anai exhibits her intense social awkwardness. Retsuko's response to Anai's behavior is to offer to take her phone calls so that she will be able to help Anai better navigate the agency. Retsuko also acknowledges Anai's anger, but she downplays it as a man's way of venting his anger.
