The Japanese government has been censured by the US House of Representatives for how during which it dealt with the difficulty of comfort women. While the US House of Representatives has been essential of the Japanese executive's handling of the matter, there were some advantageous steps ahead. One recent example is the construction of a Statue of a Girl of Peace in Glendale, California, and the Monument to Comfort Women in San Francisco. Both of those monuments were later removed from the Philippines. While the US House of Representatives censured the Japanese government, the Committee for Historical Facts argued that consolation women did not work as sex slaves and were paid far more than generals and field officers. Former Japanese comfort women report on the scary conditions of forced prostitution. In addition to no non-public freedom, they suffered actual and sexual violence. Their sex slavery was often followed by threats of death and bombings. Differences among Eastern and Western beliefsIn the past 120 years, Western fiction has been crammed with myths and stereotypes about Japanese women, from the exotic, maidenly innocence of the pre-modern era to the superior femme fatale of the 1990s. Despite the commercial achievement of such myths, the Japanese woman continues to be a fetish symbol in Western fiction. The origins of this Western view are not entirely clear.
